The Plyta

By V.J. Pacilio

The Plyta is quite a mysterious bird
That has rarely been seen and can barely be heard
It’s allergic to sunlight and scared of the dark
Which is why it won’t fly at the beach or the park
It prefers to inhabit a marsh or a bog
Where sunlight comes filtered through layers of fog
Thus explaining why not much is known of this bird
That has rarely been seen and can barely be heard

We don’t, for example, know which it would choose
If we offered one gum or a new pair of shoes
We only can guess if they have middle names
Are they into Nintendo-like video games?
Can they stand on their heads? Can they wiggle their hips?
Do they know how to sing without moving their lips?
Are they ever embarrassed, depressed or forlorn?
Do they pass out cigars when a baby is born?
Do they read many books? Are they very good cooks?
Do they usually marry for money or looks?
When they go to the store to buy ice cream and cake
Do they sometimes forget and buy milk by mistake?
Can they slam dunk a basketball? Play the guitar?
Do they usually travel by bus or by car?plyta

With questions like this, on and on we could go
Because there is virtually nothing we know
About these strange birds who are scared of the dark
Who never show up at the beach or the park!
