Carl Furillo (1955 – Bowman #169)

Carl Anthony Furillo, “The Reading Rifle”, was a Right Fielder who played for the Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers for 15 years (1946 – ’60). He was a 2-time All Star (1952, ’53) and a member of 2 World Series Championship Teams (1 in Brooklyn, 1955; and 1 in Los Angeles, 1959). He lead the N.L. in batting (.344) in 1953. Carl also was a member of 7 N.L. Championship Teams. Carl Furillo was inducted into the Italian-American Sports Hall Of Fame. He died of leukemia in 1989 at the age of 66.

  1. Carl Furillo was as good of a fielder as anyone except Willie Mays. He could hit and field with the best of ’em. I had no idea he passed away when in his mid 60’s until I read this above here. He played for the Dodgers when the Dodgers usually won the NL pennant about every year. He was a good one! 3/8/15
