Willie Galimore (1959 – Topps #145)

Willie Lee Galimore (The Wisp) was a running back for the Chicago Bears from 1957 until his tragic death (a one-car accident in which Galimore’s friend and roommate on the Bears, Bo Harrington, was also killed) in 1964. He was thought to be one of the best running backs in the National Football League at the time of his death. Willie’s uniform number (#28) was retired by the Chicago Bears and he is a member of the College Football Hall Of Fame (he attended Florida A&M University). Galimore averaged 4.5 yards per carry during his shortened career and scored 26 touchdowns. I moved to the suburbs of Chicago in 1967, so I missed the entire career of Willie Galimore.
