John Unitas (1957 – Topps #138)

John Constantine Unitas (Johnny U or The Golden Arm) was the quarterback of the Baltimore Colts from 1956 – ’72 (with 1 year each in Pittsburgh in ’55 and San Diego in ’73). In his Baltimore years, Unitas was a 3-time NFL MVP (1959, ’64 and ’67?). He was a 7-time All-Pro and participated in 10 Pro Bowls. Johnny also held the record (for over 50 years: broken by Drew Brees in 2012) for consecutive games with a touchdown pass thrown from 1956 through 1960 – 47 games. He was a member of 3 NFL championship teams and was a Super Bowl V (1970) champion. Johnny Unitas won the NFL Man of the Year Award in 1970. He was the QB on both the 50th and 75th Anniversary All-Time Teams. Johnny Unitas’s uniform number has been retired by both the Baltimore Colts (#19) and the Louisville Cardinals (#16) – the college he attended. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall Of Fame in 1979. Johnny U. threw for 40,239 yards and 290 touchdowns during his career.John Unitas 1957 Topps #138
